Echeveria 'Onslow' is a low-maintenance plant that forms beautiful, pastel-coloured rosettes in dense clusters. Origin: Echeveria 'Onslow' is a hybrid resulting from a cross between Echeveria 'Lola' and Echeveria elegans. The exact origin is unknown. Description: Also known as Echeveria 'Michella', Echeveria 'Onslow' is a charming succulent that produces compact rosettes with yellowish-green, wax-coated leaves. The rosettes can grow up to 8 cm in diameter and gradually form dense clusters through offsets. When stressed, the leaves develop a delicate pink tint. From late winter into midsummer, it sends out slender, pink flower stalks bearing bell-shaped, pinkish-red flowers with yellow tips. Care and cultivation of Echeveria 'Onslow' Light: Echeveria 'Onslow' requires full sun to partial shade for optimal growth. Place it at the brightest window in your home. When moving it outdoors in spring, gradually acclimate it to sunlight and avoid harsh afternoon sun. Soil: A well-draining substrate is crucial for healthy growth. While many gardeners mix their own soil, commercially available cactus soil also works well. Temperature: High temperatures are not a problem as long as there is good airflow. However, since Echeveria 'Onslow' is sensitive to frost, it should be brought indoors when there is a risk of freezing. It thrives best in USDA hardiness zones 10a to 11b, with minimum winter temperatures between -1.1 °C and 10 °C. Watering: During the growing season, use the "soak and dry" method: water thoroughly and then allow the soil to dry completely before watering again. In winter, water sparingly—just enough to prevent the plant from shrivelling. Very important: if a saucer is placed under the pot, always remove excess water. Fertilising: Although the plant grows well without fertiliser, it can benefit from additional nutrients. Fertilise only during the active growth period using a water-soluble fertiliser at half strength. Repotting: If grown in a pot, Echeveria 'Onslow' should be repotted as needed in spring or early summer. Make sure the soil is dry when repotting. Always use a pot with drainage holes. Propagation: Echeveria 'Onslow' can be propagated via leaves or offsets. The best time for this is in spring.
