Anacampseros rufescens f. variegata, also called “Spring Dream”（春梦殿锦） in Chinese is a fascinating variegated form of the succulent genus Anacampseros. The name Anacampseros comes from the Greek “ἀνακαμπψέρος” and means “to bring back” or “to grow low”, which refers to the compact growth form of these plants close to the ground. This pretty variety forms small, spirally arranged rosettes with up to 70 densely packed, spatulate leaves. The foliage coloration ranges from fresh green to vivid magenta, with creamy white or pink variegation - a real riot of color that is particularly effective in good light. The flowers appear in spring on long flower stems and are pink to purple in color. Origin and characteristics This form is not a wild find, but a cultivated product from two A. rufescens parent plants that originally come from the South African Cape region. As a result, the plant has typical characteristics of South African succulents: it is adapted to dry, bright and well-ventilated environments. Care instructions Light: Bright location with plenty of indirect light. Avoid direct summer sun in the midday heat. Temperature: Tolerates heat well, but is sensitive to frost. Winter temperature ideally above 5 °C. Substrate: Well-drained substrate based on pumice, loam and cactus soil prevents waterlogging. Watering: Only water when the substrate is completely dry. Keep almost dry in winter. Air circulation: A well-ventilated location protects against fungal and rotting problems. Special features “Frühlingstraum” is particularly popular because of its decorative leaf coloration. The spiral leaf arrangement and compact growth habit make it the ideal choice for succulent arrangements, windowsills or as an eye-catcher in miniature gardens.
